Volunteers Explore Education, Income and Health in our Community

The United Way Impact Councils met this November to begin community conversations regarding needs and existing services in Yakima County. All conversations were well attended by agency representatives and United Way volunteers. Whether it was Education, Income, or Health, all conversations had the same theme running through them. There are service deserts in Yakima County, and people isolated by location. The further from the city of Yakima, residents are more likely to have reduced access to needed help. This led to some interesting questions for volunteers as we move forward. How do we then begin to look at our county? Is focusing on early learning enough, or do we need to adopt a cradle-to-career approach? Given the reality of intergenerational poverty in our region, what’s our vision for change?  If you would like to be part of future conversations, please contact Tysa Kihn, tysa@uwcw.org or 509.248.1557
