The Dolsen Family

Our family has been involved with United Way for four generations. We believe that we need to support the community that supports us, and the Yakima Valley has been good to all our family businesses (Bob's CPA Practice), Automat, Coca-Cola, Dolsen Leasing and the Cow Palace). We do so with carefuly consideration, especially towards "accountability", and that is where United Way truly shines.

Bob and Ruth were Pillars from the very beginning, and in 2004 they were honored with the Alexis de Tocqueville Award for their ongoing commitment and leadership to United Way and the Valley. While Bob was definitely involved behind the scenes, his other major contribution to United Way was encouraging Bill's participation, as Campaign Chair and then President of the Board. As our children enter the family-owned business, they too become supporters of United Way.

Our belief in United Way extends to our support of the United Way Foundation as the ideal way to "expand and perpetuate the impact of United Way."

We are especially drawn to the Foundation's goal of establishing an endowment fund that will cover United Way's annual overhead, assuring that more campaign funds go directly to support community programs.

We also value the Foundation's very strong local leadership. All have a passion for United Way, and are committed, as we are, to seeing a secure United Way providing the needed help in our community for generations to come.

It is our hope that you will look closely into the United Way Foundation when it comes to future gifts or bequests. United Way has a strong and trustworthy heritage of caring that is worthy of all our support.

Respectfully,

The entire Dolsen Family

United Way Looks Into the Future

United Way/UGN/Community Chest is an evolving organization that, for generations, has responded to the needs of the community. Our support of the Foundation seeks to continue this mission with confidence in the' quality of the leadership and the thoroughness of the allocations process.

Over the years, we have been involved with United Way in various ways. Jack's Dad ran the campaign and was Chairman of the Board in the formative years. Connie co-chaired the Allocations Committee with Royal Keith and later became President of the organization. In 1995, we headed the Pillars Club effort and organized the first Pillars event - a train ride to Ellensburg on the Temples' dinner train. That year, there were 158 Pillars; today, there are 292. United Way is a successful, dynamic organization.

United Way Foundation, as a separate entity from United Way of Yakima County, permits donors to make gifts and bequests that will be used to insure that United Way's history of success continues into the future. The Foundation is very flexible and allows donors to specify how their gifts will be used to support the same type of charitable activities with which you associate United Way. Gifts to the Foundation will continue to benefit United Way and impact the community for decades to come.

We have watched and participated in the evolution of United Way in the Valley and know first-hand that our funds will be effectively and efficiently put to work. Our estate planning includes the United Way Foundation and we encourage you to explore the options it presents for you.

Sincerely,

Jack and Connie Bloxom

The Schaakes

In 1996, a group of United Way supporters including Jim Smith, Dennis Richardson, Otis Harland, Bob Tenney and Frank Eisner created the United Way Foundation. They wanted to provide a vehicle for United Way to fund expeditures not permitted through restrictions on the use of annual campaign funds.

The United Way Foundation has become more - providing a means by which we can support the needs of the people of the Yakima Valley in far-reaching and responsive ways.

The Foundation's strength, in our valley is its connection to United Way of Yakima County. United Way has a history of nearly 50 years and, we believe, a long future to come. It has had consistently strong leadership and broad, well organized community volunteer support.

Through our support of the Foundation, we believe that we can enable United Way to continue to play this important role in the Yakima Valley. The Foundation can provide monies which would otherwise be unavailable from United Way - to fund capital projects, for example. It can support the ongoing overhead expenses of United Way. It can provide support for the annual campaign.

We can direct that our contributions be used in ways we specify, or be used as the Foundation Board of Trustees recommends. However our Foundation monies are used, they will benefit those in need in our Valley for years to come, through the capable hands of United Way.

We are pleased to have chosen the United Way Foundation as an important part of our giving plans. We hope that you will consider doing the same.

Sincerely,

Paul and Terri Schaake
